Nota de Esclarecimento: Paul Watson e a Sea Shepherd Brasil

Devido aos últimos acontecimentos, a Sea Shepherd Brasil emite uma nota de esclarecimento aos seus apoiadores no país, explicando como estes afetam a organização no Brasil.

A Sea Shepherd é uma organização que se construiu com o estabelecimento de diversos capítulos independentes pelo mundo todo, que seguem sua missão e valores. O Brasil, portanto, é um destes capítulos. A Sea Shepherd Brasil foi co-fundada em 1999 pelo Capitão Paul Watson, que segue como parte de sua assembleia até hoje.

Há algumas semanas, o Paul Watson decidiu se demitir da Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, dos EUA, por não se alinhar mais com o direcionamento da organização por lá. Na semana passada, a Sea Shepherd Global, com base na Holanda, tomou a decisão de remover Paul Watson de seu conselho administrativo.

Estas decisões, porém, não afetam em nada a operação e missão da Sea Shepherd no Brasil, que é uma organização independente da Sea Shepherd Conservation Society e da Sea Shepherd Global, e segue a essência da Sea Shepherd desde sua origem. A Sea Shepherd Brasil segue com Paul Watson como forte parte de seu corpo administrativo. Paul Watson também continua muito presente e ativo em nossa organização no Brasil, com trocas constantes e presente em reuniões mensais com nossa equipe.

A Sea Shepherd Brasil, portanto, segue alinhada com a missão e valores de ação direta para a proteção do oceano, como foi pensado desde a sua fundação pelo capitão Paul Watson. Importante também citar nosso respeito pelo trabalho bem-sucedido da Sea Shepherd Global de ação direta pelo oceano, que continua seguindo a filosofia e essência da Sea Shepherd, independente de motivos que os fizeram tomar tal decisão.

Estes últimos acontecimentos, por mais que gerem uma compreensível confusão, para nós no Brasil são vistos como uma maneira de reforçarmos a missão e essência da Sea Shepherd no Brasil, e em todos os capítulos do mundo que ainda as seguem, assim como sedimentar o nosso inabalável e incansável trabalho de ação direta focado pelo oceano, como pensado desde o seu primeiro dia.

Due to recent events, Sea Shepherd Brazil issues a note of clarification to its supporters in the country, explaining how it affects the organisation in Brazil.

Sea Shepherd is an organisation that has built upon the establishment of several independent chapters around the world that follow its mission and values. Brazil, therefore, is one of these chapters. Sea Shepherd Brazil was co-founded in 1999 by Captain Paul Watson, who remains part of our assembly to this day.

A few weeks ago, Paul Watson decided to resign from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, USA, for not aligning with the organisation’s direction there. Last week, Sea Shepherd Global, based in the Netherlands, made the decision to remove Paul Watson from its board of directors.

These decisions, however, do not affect in any way the operation and mission of Sea Shepherd in Brazil, which is an independent organization of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and Sea Shepherd Global, and continues to follow the essence of Sea Shepherd since its inception. Sea Shepherd Brazil continues with Paul Watson as a strong part of its administrative body. Paul Watson also remains very present and active in our organisation in Brazil, with constant exchanges and presence in monthly meetings with our team.

Sea Shepherd Brazil therefore is in line with the mission and values ​​of direct action for the protection of the ocean, as it was thought of since its foundation by Captain Paul Watson. It is also important to mention our respect for Sea Shepherd Global’s successful work of direct action for the ocean, which continues to follow the philosophy and essence of Sea Shepherd, regardless of the reasons for this decision.

These latest events, even though they generate understandable confusion, for us in Brazil are seen as a way to reinforce the mission and essence of Sea Shepherd in Brazil, and in all the chapters of the world that still follow them, as well as to consolidate our unwavering and relentless ocean-focused direct action work, as thought from day one.
